This is being developed

The Club opened on Oldfield Brow on a Friday in March 1989 in the then Community Centre that has now been re-developed into flats. Andrew Baird Sensei had moved into the area from Stockport.

A couple of years later, the club moved to a Dance studio on Woodfield Road on the 4th Floor of a mill - an improvement on Oldfield Brow

About this time, the club started holding monthly high grade practises at Sale Leisure Centre. A year or so later the opportunity for Altrincham Leisure Centre came up and the Sunday class that is still running today was born.

Woodfield Road whilst glittering was expensive and hard to find so we looked for new premises and found St John's Church where we gradually increased the classes to 3 nights a week.

Woodfield Road has been re-developed by Urban Splash.

The club was opened by Andrew Baird, then a 3rd Dan instructor from the Lancashire Aikikai, who had just moved into the area. Classes were small to begin with, consisting of one 4th Kyu and five or six complete beginners. Later, the club, held in a rather bare and dusty 19th century schoolhouse, dwindled for a time to four, three or even two students. But the enthusiasm of those students was high, and the club kept going. Eventually, we were able to offer classes in the local sports centre and with publicity organised by club members, word got around and the club grew to surprising pro-portions. From one night a week with a handful of students we had grown to three nights a week in two venues with classes averaging about 20 members.
