A senior student or coaching team member will welcome you onto the mat and make sure you 'know the ropes', especially regarding safety and unfamiliar language and etiquette.
You will be shown basic evasive movements and introduced to methods of movement and falling which will keep you safe when you practise Aikido. This will make sure you feel safe throughout
Some of the time you will be practising with other beginners to be taught movements, or techniques. Other times you will be integrated with the rest of the class where you will able to practise with higher grade students.
We are a small friendly club established in 1989. The club is not run for profit nor are any wages paid.
We are a club of the Lancashire Aikikai, itself established in 1966, which is a member organisation of the national Governing Body, the British Aikido Board, which is recognised by Sport England.
The Lancashire Aikikai is affiliated to Yokohama International Aikido and through that to Hombu - Aikido HQ. The Aikikai's Technical Director is Mimuro Sensei who guides our development.
Clothing: We recommend you wear something old, loose and un-restricting like a jogging trousers. Gym gear might be ok but not shorts. Rugby shirt rather than a thin T shirt. Please try to avoid anything with zips/buttons etc. Judo / Karate suits are not necessary for your initial classes.
Misc : We use sandals, flip flops or Crocs to the mat edge – to try to avoid bringing grit on the matted area.
We suggest you bring water - as well as a bag to put belongings, Sanitiser, valuables and keys in.

Still have question you can

Aikidoka will have differing risk factors, health and personal circumstances. It is your decision how you participate in any session but not if you are unwell.
Before coming to a class you should gauge if you are feeling ill by self assessing for symptoms. of flu, RSV, COVID-19 and norovirus which are seen throughout the year. But in winter they all circulate and have high rates of infection.
If you feel unwell, Please don't come to class nor should you come to train if someone in your household is ill
